DC x LEMAR & DAULEY x ADMIRAL

Here, the second in a series of collabo's between DC and New York's Lemar and Dauley, they chose a popular DC LIFE silhouette: the Admiral (picture attached in Dark Chocolate).

The muse for the Lemar and Dauley Admiral was the idea of regatta sail boats. Fabrics and materials used on the sails originally inspired, but in the process of creating the shoe other elements began to reshape the vision to further address the lifestyle behind the idea. The shoe captures a metropolitan individual engaging in a beach bum mentality. Both color ways were created as a reflection of sand and concrete. The patterns on the side panels represent the art often depicted on regatta wind sails. The "Lemar and Dauley" name was used to illustrate the names often detailed on the side of boats. The metal plate embossed with Braille and the reflective tape was used to illustrate touch and sight, both of which are necessary human senses when in the water. In our final attempt to brand the shoe, we used the trademark houndstooth pattern associated with Lemar and Dauley.

I'M NOT MAD AT THESE. MiBlox, who made these joints, was founded by youth organizers trying to keep kids out of trouble. A portion of the proceeds goes back to the youth organization. On the sole of the shoes it reads "Peter 2:9: "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
LOL at Ozone Mags take on these, "Hating on these too hard will almost be like booing a 6-year old singing 'Greatest Love of All' at a talent show."

Lethal Bizzle is apparently the shit around the rest of the world, I have heard his single "Pow" before, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. "POW" reminds me of Black Rob trying to do Reggaeton. But the more I got into his music, the more I became accustome to his sound. Jay-Z recently performed over Lethal B's "Pow" on his past international tour, footage HERE!! I like the video and song "POLICE ON MY BACK" .. I think it's dope.

Ok, let me preface this by saying it was a Swedish Grammy. But hey, that is still pretty impressive for a country not known to support it own local hip-hop. He was nominated for an MTV Europe award in 2008. I met Adam this past summer while LA moving around the Rosewood area. He is a humble artist. I was impressed that he doesn't smoke or drink, at all. A couple months later, we run into again, at WBR, another meeting. ..Nipsey is a stand up dude, with a natural street swagger, he just needed his music to match with equal quality. I found this kid via Vimeo. His name is Michael Kontopoulos, he is an artist and designer completing his MFA at the Department of Design | Media Arts, UCLA. He does some really dope visual art and concept art pieces. I have become a fan of his work and his outside the box approach to art. PASS THE FUNK is an old piece he did back in 2005, but I like it..get familiar. More vids from Kontopoulos HERE!! This is what he has say about the piece:

This work -- an older piece-- was designed within the Japanese concept of the karakuri. A karakuri is traditionally a puppet or automata, designed to trick or tease an audience. Their surprising nature is meant to imply a degree of mystery and even magic. In Pass the Funk, my collaborator and I, inhabiting each one television, pass unseen energy back and forth using the medium of dance (or funk, if you please), switching simple, incandescent light bulbs on and off at each loop. Our goal is to make the audience think they can predict the outcomes of our movement, only to spring various tricks on them in an evolving loop of events that occur within, between and beyond the screens.

Cory Mo has been holding Texus, specifically Houston, down for a long time. He has slowing been started to build up his name and reputation outside of Texas. He has a unique production style, that is not limited to what you would expect to hear out of a Texas artist. I say all that to say this...
